Suits’ Jessica Pearson Actor Comments On Potential LA Spinoff Cameo & Shares Message For New Cast

Gina Torres has offered insight into whether Jessica Pearson will appear in Suits LA. Torres played the Pearson Hardman law firm co-founder as part of the main cast of the first six seasons of the USA Network legal drama Suits, which ultimately ran for nine seasons between 2011 and 2019. After the show became a record-breaking streaming success in 2023 when it joined the Netflix library, NBC greenlit the upcoming Suits LA, a spinoff set in the world of Los Angeles entertainment law that stars Stephen Amell, Josh McDermitt, Lex Scott Davis, and Bryan Greenberg.

The Hollywood Reporter recently sat down for an interview with Gina Torres. While they primarily discussed the recent series finale of her show 9-1-1: Lone Star, the topic naturally turned to Suits before long. When asked how likely it would be that she would reprise her role in Suits LA, she said that “I have no idea.” She revealed that she has not been in contact with the production team so far, though she said that “I wish them the best.” Read her full quote below:

I have no idea. I really can’t speak to Suits: LA at all. I haven’t spoken to anybody. I wish them the best, though. I really do hope they have a great ride and that they enjoy what hopefully is getting ready to happen.

What This Means For Suits LA

Jessica Pearson Could Still Appear

Torres’ comments make it seem highly unlikely that Jessica Pearson will appear alongside the main Suits LA cast in season 1. However, the pinoff is already set to embrace its connection to the original show by featuring Gabriel Macht reprising his role as Harvey Specter, the character he played in all nine seasons. This appearance stems organically from the show’s narrative, as Amell’s character Ted Black is a former federal prosecutor from New York, where the original show is set, and thus has already rubbed elbows with Specter.

In addition to stars playing various fictional characters, Suits LA will feature guest stars portraying fictionalized versions of themselves, including John Amos, Patton Oswalt, and Brian Baumgartner.

Should the show be renewed for further seasons, it is entirely possible that more members of the original Suits cast could reprise their original roles. This includes Torres, as she may have better availability when season 2 goes into production now that her commitments to 9-1-1: Lone Star have ended. The only star of the original show who is entirely unlikely to appear is Meghan Markle, who has not acted onscreen since leaving the show in season 7 and marrying Prince Harry in 2018.

This Wouldn’t Be Her First Spinoff

While Torres has revealed that the crew behind Suits LA has not yet reached out to her, this may have been the case while they were developing season 1 because they may have wanted to avoid association with the character, who was the lead of the short-lived Suits spinoff Pearson, which ran for just one season in 2019. However, if they break the spinoff curse and get renewed for season 2, the conversations about potentially featuring her character could be conducted with more confidence.

Suits LA premieres on NBC on February 23 at 9/8C.
