The Antler Queen Returns As A New Wilderness Hunt Begins

Warning: There are spoilers ahead for Yellowjackets season 3, episode 9, “How the Story Ends.”

The Yellowjackets season 3 finale trailer teases the Antler Queen’s return and a new victim being hunted in the wilderness. Thanks to the warmer weather and the abundance of animals that Akilah (Nia Sondaya) takes care of, the teenage survivors have not been on the brink of starvation this season, and have not had to hunt each other in order to survive. However, with the death of Kodiak (Joe McHale) and snow beginning to fall during Yellowjackets season 3, episode 9’s ending, the survivors have lost their opportunity to escape the wilderness before winter sets in again.

Now, Paramount (via TV Promos) has released the season 3 finale trailer, which shows teenage Lottie (Courtney Eaton) declaring that they must have another hunt. Van (Liv Hewson) is seen preparing a deck of cards to determine who will be hunted, which is followed by Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) howling as she and the other survivors pursue their victim. Meanwhile, the adult Lottie (Simone Kessell) is seen approaching the altar on the stairs where her body was found, and the trailer ends with an ominous shot of the Antler Queen. What This Means For The Yellowjackets Season 3 Finale

The Finale May Reveal The Identities Of “Pit Girl” And Lottie’s Killer

In Yellowjackets’ 1990s timeline, Shauna and Lottie appear to be more powerful than ever as they force the group into another hunt. Van is going to try to stack the deck, presumably to prevent Taissa (Jasmin Savoy Brown) or anyone else she is close to from being picked. With the episode title being “Full Circle,” this could end up being the same hunt that is glimpsed in the Yellowjackets pilot episode, which means that the chosen victim will end up being the infamous “Pit Girl.

Yellowjackets’ Pit Girl: Who Gets Killed & Eaten In The Opening Scene?

Yellowjackets episode 1’s flash-forward depicted the girls eating one of their teammates, with only a few characters fitting the victim’s description.

If this is the case, the Antler Queen at the end of the trailer could be the same one from the pilot episode. The Antler Queen shot could also be part of a vision the adult Lottie had before she died. The candlelit stairs and Lottie saying “They brought you to me,” tease that the true story of her death will finally be revealed. As for the adult Taissa (Tawny Cypress), the shots of her holding a knife and her words about someone being “the last one standing” show her struggling after the death of Van (Lauren Ambrose).

Our Take On The Yellowjackets Season 3 Finale Trailer

It Looks Like A Satisfying Finale, Although 1 Key Character Is Seemingly Missing

I’m still reeling from Yellowjackets killing Van, and while I am concerned about what Taissa is doing with that knife, her heartbreak and anger are understandable responses. Melissa (Hilary Swank) is curiously absent from the trailer, although she may be who Taissa is thrusting the knife into, with Taissa making her pay for killing Van. Regardless of Melissa’s fate, I am equally thrilled and terrified to learn what really happened to Lottie and to see a new wilderness hunt, which may answer questions that have existed since Yellowjackets‘ very first episode.
