The Boys Star Teases Their Reaction After Reading The Series Finale

The Boys star Colby Minifie reveals her reaction to reading the script for the series finale. Minifie plays Ashley Barrett, a Vought executive who, despite becoming CEO, is a puppet for Homelander (Antony Starr). During The Boys season 4 ending, Ashley is last seen injecting herself with Compound V in a desperate attempt to protect herself from Homelander’s wrath. While the Prime Video franchise continues to expand with spinoffs, including Gen V and Vought Rising, season 5 will mark the end of the original show.

During an interview with ScreenRant‘s Brandon Zachary for her new film The Surrender, Minifie shares that the script for The Boys series finale is “extremely satisfying” and that she “was getting emotional reading it.” She discusses how, despite the show’s extreme circumstances, it is grounded in the reality of the frustration and fear one can feel when working for a “crazy boss” like Homelander. Minifie also discusses how her character’s struggle in The Surrender is grounded in reality. Check out her comments below:

I just read the finale last night. It’s an extremely satisfying finale. That’s what I will say. It’s extremely satisfying. I was getting emotional reading it… the only way that those things work, as we’ve been talking about, is if they are grounded. If we believe that it’s all grounded in reality and in something that the audience can connect to, it works? Oh yeah. I have a crazy boss and it makes me want to rip my hair out, you know? [In The Surrender], I’m having trouble with my mom. Our dad died, and Mom wants to bring him back. The grief is real, and the world can expand from there.

What This Means For The Boys Season 5

Ashley May Directly Confront Homelander In The Series Finale

Minifie’s comments are a promising sign that The Boys‘ ending will not disappoint and that it will conclude the stories of Ashley and Homelander in a rewarding fashion. From not informing him about the survival of Maeve (Dominique McElligott) in the season 3 finale or revealing the betrayal of A-Train (Jessie T. Usher), Ashley has begun to quietly rebel against Homelander. However, she still has not directly stood up to him and continues to acquiesce to his dangerous whims.

With Homelander gearing up for a final showdown in The Boys season 5, there are several powerful characters he has selected for his supe army.

A satisfying ending for Ashley in The Boys season 5 could be to see her directly standing up to Homelander. Even though such a confrontation would likely end in her death, it would be fulfilling to see Ashley take a stand and to die with her dignity intact. Having injected herself with Compound V, Ashley will have superpowers in season 5, although they will inevitably pale in comparison to Homelander’s abilities. Regardless of what Ashley’s fate is, it is understandable for Minifie to be emotional after being a key part of the show since season 1.

The Boys Will End On A Strong Note

Colby Minifie as Ashley in The Boys season 3

The Boys ending with season 5 means that it has many character arcs and storylines to resolve in its final episodes. Minifie’s comments make me confident that, despite all the franchise’s spinoffs, the ending to the main series will feel conclusive in a way that works well for the characters and the overarching story. I hope that involves Ashley finding some redemption, particularly after the season 3 finale and her scenes with A-Train in season 4 laid the groundwork for it. At the very least, it is gratifying to know that Minifie feels that The Boys‘ finale sticks the landing.
