Warning: SPOILERS ahead for The Pitt episode 10!The Pitt episode 10’s shocking ending has been unpacked by star Patrick Ball, who breaks down what happened and how future episodes will address it. The end of The Pitt episode 10 sees Dr. Santos (Isa Biones) tell Robby (Noah Wyle) about her suspicions that Langdon (Ball) has been stealing patients’ drugs. The final moments of the episode see the senior attending confront his high-ranking resident, discovering drugs in his locker and angrily sending him home. With the senior resident gone, the protagonist no longer has the person he’s been relying on the most throughout their shift.
Speaking with Deadline, Ball unpacked The Pitt episode 10’s ending, explaining the long-standing repercussions Robby kicking Langdon out will have on the hospital. The actor explained there are still questions surrounding Langdon and his drug use yet to be explored, such as him claiming not to be high when working. He also revealed the conversation around his drug use will come back again, praising show creator R. Scott Gemmill for the way it’s handled. Check out what Ball had to say below:
It comes out that Langdon has been self-medicating through the hospital drug supply. He says you’ve got to take him at his word. He says, I’m never high. I’m not high treating my own withdrawal symptoms so that I can do the job that I need to do. But to what extent is that self-maintenance? How much is he taking to fend off withdrawal symptoms? I think that question is still out there and it’s something that I think is better to be wondered about than answered.
It is addressed again. But again, I think to [series creator R.] Scott [Gemmill]’s credit, he’s very spare with what answers he provides, and what insights he gives into the doctor’s personal lives. He doesn’t come out and present you with a tidy thesis or a tidy takeaway. He kind of leaves that for the audience to do. And I don’t want to get in the way of that.
What Ball’s Statement Means For Langdon’s Absence Moving Forward
The Pitt Is Losing One Of Its Best Doctors
Out of all the characters in The Pitt, Langdon has been one of the biggest anchors for everyone else in the trauma hospital. While he continued to butt heads with Santos throughout the entire shift, he’d managed to strike up a friendship with Mel (Taylor Dearden) stemming from her unique abilities with patients at the hospital. However, the intern he’d been fighting with since the start began noticing discrepancies in the medication he was giving to patients, making her confide in Garcia (Alexandra Metz), and later Robby, about her suspicions.

10 Ways The Pitt Gets Hospital ERs Absolutely Right (& It’s Scary)
The Pitt is a medical drama unlike any other, mainly because it is being praised as one of the most accurate (and troubling) hospital shows ever.
Langdon had been in charge of multiple patients across the hospital, with his seniority and expertise helping to treat a variety of ailments since the show began. Since The Pitt‘s realism is its strong suit, it makes sense for the storyline to wrap back around, especially given how adamant Langdon had initially been about not leaving. However, Ball’s statement makes the resolution sound messy, with some answers about the senior resident’s true motives being left up to interpretation. Either way, it doesn’t sound like his story is over yet, even if he’s no longer physically present.
Our Take On Langdon’s Future In The Pitt
Will He Get Fired For What He Did?
Langdon stealing patients’ drugs and potentially abusing them is a major offense, but Robby seemingly hasn’t made a permanent decision about his future at the hospital by episode 10’s end. Even though Langdon getting fired would feel like a premature end to his story, it’s also the most sensible course of action given the discovery of what he’s been doing. Since there’s still five episodes left, The Pitt could resolve this new conflict amicably. However, there’s no guarantee things between the senior attending and senior resident will ever be the same again.
