With the Harry Potter TV show on the way, Lucius Malfoy’s actor has nothing to offer the new stars, but for a good reason. After the movies officially came to an end in 2011 with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, Warner Bros. has been attempting to replicate its success for years. The Fantastic Beasts movies failed to satisfy audiences, leading to box office disappointment and a premature cancelation. Nothing has been revealed about the Harry Potter reboot’s casting process, save for an open casting call put out by the studio.
In an interview about The White Lotus season 3 with ScreenRant‘s Tessa Smith, Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy) and Patrick Schwarzenegger (Gen V) addressed the reboot’s casting. In a surprising twist, Isaacs reveals that he already knows which actors have been cast. Instead of offering advice to the new stars, Isaacs gave nothing but a vote of confidence, as he expressed his respect for the showrunner, Mark Mylod, and the stars. Check out his quote below:
Jason Isaacs: Oh, I know who they’re casting. They’re incredible actors.
Patrick Schwarzenegger: You do?
Jason Isaacs: Some of them, yeah. And they’re incredible actors. And it’s being done by the same people who did the films and Mark Mylod’s running it, who is a brilliant showrunner. I worked with him years ago on Entourage, but he ran, he did lots of Game of Thrones. We did Succession as well. It’s a phenomenally talented man, and they don’t need any advice from me.
The Cast Comes With A Vote Of Confidence
Isaacs’ confidence is an extraordinary sign for the show. After all, Isaacs is a renowned actor, and even if he is not involved in the cast, having his support is crucial. Isaacs is an actor who has starred in The Death of Stalin (2017), Star Trek: Discovery, Black Hawk Down (2001), among many other beloved movies and shows. His praise for the new cast members is proof that they should be able to carry the new show with Mylod’s help. Of course, leading this franchise will not be a simple prospect.
Over 32,000 children have reportedly auditioned for the Harry Potter Golden Trio roles.
It will certainly be difficult to replicate the success of the original Golden Trio. Every member of the original Harry Potter cast became a crucial part of the franchise. Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley), and Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) each proved that they were both skilled enough and mentally strong enough to withstand international attention and criticism. The same will need to be true for the new stars, as they will likely spend the next decade on this project, while also bearing the weight of the world’s attention.
The New Cast Will Be Well-Prepared
Having Isaacs’ support could be crucial for the new cast, just as it was when Daniel Radcliffe stated that “it’ll be cool to… see the torch get passed on“. After seeing the instant rise to fame that the original trio experienced, HBO will undoubtedly work to prepare the new stars for the attention. Filming is set to begin in the summer, so a casting announcement should be coming soon. A sign of confidence just months before the likely announcement should provide them with much-needed support before the worldwide response to the Harry Potter TV show’s casting.
