Suits creator Aaron Korsh discusses the idea of Meghan Markle returning to the legal drama and why her comeback would be difficult to pull off. The show ran from 2011 to 2019, following the lives of high-powered lawyers at a top New York firm. Markle played paralegal-turned-lawyer Rachel Zane from the series’ debut until season 7 in 2018. Rachel’s departure was a natural conclusion to her arc, as she left New York with her husband, Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams), to start a new life in Seattle, which mirrored Markle’s real-life exit from acting after her marriage to Prince Harry.

While attending the premiere of the show’s spinoff, Suits LA, Korsh talked to People about whether Markle or any other original cast member could make a cameo in the new spinoff. Korsh explained that her comeback would be too disruptive to the show’s world, saying, “It blows up the world too much.” Read his comments below:

So, look, to me, we have thought about whether it be Meghan or any of the other cast members coming on and playing themselves as an actor. I think for me that’s a little … My brain blows up at the thought of that.

So I think it blows up the world too much. Obviously, if Meghan wants to come back under any circumstances, Meghan can come back.

When the publication went on to ask if Markle had an open invitation to return to the cast of the NBC series, Korsh acknowledged that while Markle would always be welcome back, the logistics of reintroducing her would be too complicated. Korsh’s comments make it clear that while Markle’s return isn’t completely out of the question, it would require careful execution in order to maintain the show’s realism. Given Markle’s real-life transition from actor to Duchess of Sussex, reintegrating her into the story would pose unique challenges for the spinoff show.
