Warning! Spoilers ahead for Yellowjackets season 3, episode 4.
Yellowjackets
star Sophie Nélisse teases that Shauna’s season 3, episode 4, actions will serve as a beginning of a dark path forward. Created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, the Showtime survival thriller series returned for season 3 last month, picking the story up after the team’s cabin burned down in the season 2 finale. Yellowjackets season 3, episode 4 featured Coach Ben Scott (Steven Krueger) on trial over his potential involvement in the destruction of the cabin, and the episode ends with Shauna using an impassioned speech to ensure that he is found guilty.
In a recent interview with ScreenRant‘s Tatiana Hullender as new episodes of Yellowjackets season 3 continue to release, Nélisse weighs in on Shauna’s dark turn in episode 4, explaining why her character tries so hard to seal Coach Scott’s fate. According to the actor, it’s all about exerting control over the group, and she reveals that Shauna may not even believe that Coach Scott is guilty of burning the cabin down. Check out Nélisse’s comment below:
Yeah, I don’t think Shauna actually believes he’s responsible for burning down the cabin. I don’t think she’s even asked herself that question. She just saw an opportunity because he was such an easy target, and I think bringing people down makes her feel better about herself.
She just sees it as, again, an opportunity to take control and to prove her point that she has the final word; she has the final say. At the end of the council, when she sways the group to her direction, it’s confirmation for her that she has what it takes to scare people and to have it her way.
I don’t think the ramifications of what she’s doing will hit her until way later. This was all her doing, and if he is an innocent man, she’s crossed a line that she’ll never be able to overcome.
What Yellowjackets Season 3, Episode 4, Means For Shauna
Will Shauna’s Power Continue To Grow?
For a moment, it appears as if Coach Scott will be found not guilty, with Misty (Sammi Hanratty) and the coach himself seemingly getting through to the majority of the team. Shauna, however, turns the tides, essentially bullying her companions to change their minds, and the episode ends with Coach Scott having essentially been handed a death sentence. Whether Coach Scott will be killed or not remains to be seen, but the character is notably absent from the present-day portion of the series.

In addition to Coach Scott now being in a precarious position, Shauna’s actions in season 3, episode 4, could suggest that she’ll be making a bid for Natalie’s (Sophie Thatcher) leadership position. She exerts clear control over the Yellowjackets cast of characters in the episode’s final moments, and she could well use that control to usurp Natalie’s power. This could mean that it’s Shauna who oversees the team’s darker turn to cannibalism, which this season has not yet totally explored.
Our Take On Shauna’s Yellowjackets Season 3, Episode 4, Actions
Adult Shauna’s Storyline Could Take A Turn
So far, Yellowjackets season 3, at least the ’90s-set portion of the show, has turned Shauna into quite the antagonist. Her decision to use her influence to put a potentially innocent man on death row is a big shift for the character, and if it marks the start of a dark path forward, things could end up getting much worse under her watch.
What could be especially interesting is seeing how teen Shauna’s turn to darkness influences audience perceptions of Melanie Lynskey’s adult Shauna. Adult Shauna’s storyline tends to be more comedic, but the character’s journey in the ’90s could be used to bring out a sense of destructive power that lurks within her. It remains to be seen where Shauna goes from here, but Yellowjackets season 3, episode 4, certainly paints a troubling picture of the character’s future.
New episodes of Yellowjackets season 3 release on Fridays on Paramount+ with Showtime, and Sundays at 8 p.m. ET for those watching on Showtime’s linear channel.
