MobLand
, a new crime thriller TV show starring Pierce Brosnan and Tom Hardy, just broke a Paramount+ record. Created by Ronan Bennett and with Guy Ritchie serving as an executive producer and director of multiple episodes, the series stars Hardy as Harry Da Souza, a violent fixer for Brosnan’s Conrad Harrigan and the powerful Harrigan crime family. Also starring Helen Mirren and Paddy Considine, MobLand was met with positive reviews and premiered on March 30.
Paramount now reveals that MobLand just had the biggest global series premiere ever for the Paramount+ streaming service. The premiere episode drew a stunning 2.2 million global viewers on the first day of release. MobLand claims the top spot from Tulsa King, with Landman and 1923 also ranking among the streamer’s top three launches.
What This Means For MobLand
Is A Season 2 Coming?
MobLand, notably, is not billed as a miniseries, meaning there seemingly is the potential for additional seasons. While it’s still very early in the show’s run and a lot could change as the remaining nine episodes release, it’s possible that the show will get a season 2 order. For now, though, it’s clear that the combined star power of Brosnan and Hardy in the MobLand cast, as well as Ritchie’s name as a creative behind the camera, is enough to get viewers to check out the premiere episode.

Guy Ritchie’s new crime drama series follows the exploits of the Harrigans, a crime family running drugs and guns through modern-day London.
On Rotten Tomatoes, MobLand has a positive critics’ score of 78%, with reviews praising the lead performances and the show’s gritty tone, even if it does play into some crime genre tropes. The audience-driven Popcornmeter score, however, is more lukewarm at 66%. This could be an indication that the strong viewership of the premiere won’t continue for the rest of season 1. That being said, this score is based only on episode 1, and future episodes could prove more unanimously enjoyable for general viewers.
Our Take On MobLand’s Paramount+ Record
The Crime Thriller Show Has Lots To Like
Paramount+ has been growing in popularity in recent years due in no small part to the Taylor Sheridan universe of Yellowstone shows, but other shows like Dexter: Original Sin have also been big audience draws. MobLand is just the latest example of Paramount+’s strong offerings to subscribers. The series features Hardy doing what he does best, which is utilizing his intense physicality, and it features Brosnan perfectly cast as as crime family patriarch.
The MobLand cast is certainly one of the show’s biggest strengths, but it also features some narrative surprises and standout moments of gritty action. The premiere episode does an effective job of setting up the story to come and building some momentum, but future episodes will have to maintain this momentum if the show is to keep its record-breaking premiere episode audience around. It remains to be seen how future episodes of MobLand will fare, but the Paramount+ series is evidently off to a great start.
