The global Box Office is rejoicing with James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way Of Water. The much talked about and highly anticipated sequel to Avatar finally released last week on Friday. As expected, the film opened to a thunderous response from the audience, while critics have been praising the film. This immensely positive feedback has reflected in the box office collections of the film. Not surprisingly, Avatar 2 has managed to emerge as one of the highest grossing releases of the film in terms of opening weekend collections.
In fact, the film which saw a wide release has raked in a stagger USD 434.5 million [Rs. 3589.99 cr] on its opening weekend at the worldwide box office. Looking closer at the business of the film, 13 years in the making the James Cameron directorial Avatar: The Way of Water, has managed to daw in USD 134 million [Rs. 1107.46 cr] from the domestic North American market with a further USD 300.5 million [Rs. 2483.52 cr] from the international markets. With this, the film currently ranks as the sixth highest opening of the year at the North American box office, while at the global box office, the film ranks as the second highest opening weekend grosser coming in behind Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness which had collected USD 452 million.
If that was not enough, given the fact that Avatar: The Way of Water has a long road ahead, the film is expected to see its business increase exponentially. In fact, trade predictions state that the business of Avatar 2 is likely to rival the collections of the Tom Cruise starrer Top Gun: Maverick which released earlier this year.
