Marvel producer Stephen Broussard shares that Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will be central to the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As the third installment in Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man trilogy, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will reunite audiences with Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang following the Marvel hero’s brief absence after his involvement in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. The film, which will kick off the events of the MCU’s Phase 5, will also bring back Evangeline Lilly, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Michael Douglas, while welcoming Kathryn Newton in her MCU debut.
In a recent interview with Total Film magazine (via Games Radar), Broussard discussed how previous Ant-Man films have been labeled as “palate cleansers” and that this is something they wanted to shake with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. With the Ant-Man films having previously been released directly after Avengers films, Broussard discussed how they wanted this third Ant-Man film to serve as its own big project. The producer continued that the hope is that it will feel “central” to the MCU as it now enters Phase 5. Check out Broussard’s full quote below.
Coming after the Avengers movies, phrases like ‘palate cleanser’ had been thrown around about the Ant-Man movies, [we felt] if we’re getting a chance at part three, we want the film to be big and feel central to the future of the MCU.
How Ant-Man 3 Could Impact The MCU’s Future
Alongside Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania‘s other returning faces, the Phase 5 opener will also see Jonathan Majors’ Kang return and set all kinds of chaos in motion for Scott and the gang as they enter the Quantum Realm. In true Marvel style, very little is known about the events of the film at this time. Although, the first trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania appeared to hint at Scott’s darkest adventure to date with stakes so high that the scale of the potential fallout is not yet known.
In terms of what Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania could mean for the MCU going forward, the film is expected to explore Kang’s character further, following his initial introduction in Disney+’s Loki. With future projects such as Avengers: The Kang Dynasty slated for the MCU’s Phase 6, it’s no secret that this all-powerful villain is set to make the MCU his very own personal playground. It’s likely that Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will help further establish just what Kang is capable of, as well as potentially lay the groundwork for his plans going forward. Some have even speculated that Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania could see Scott die at the hands of Kang, as audiences grow skeptical of just how Ant-Man will fare against Kang within the events of the film.
Broussard’s comments highlighting Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania‘s importance within the MCU going forward are certain to get audiences excited. Although, there is likely to be some fear that comes as a result of the producer’s comments as they certainly hint at higher stakes, meaning that these fan-favorite characters may not be safe and that the gloves may now well and truly be off with Kang stepping into the ring. As for what Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will mean for the future of the MCU, all will be revealed when the film hits theaters next year.
