Blumhouse’s New 2025 Horror Movie Hits Major Box Office Milestone In Just 2 Weeks

The new Blumhouse horror movie has achieved a major box office milestone. The company, which was co-founded by Jason Blum and Amy Israel in 2000, is largely known for their horror output. Although Blumhouse movies include the Oscar-winning music drama Whiplash, the live-action musical comedy Jem and the Holograms movie, and the Spike Lee crime movie BlacKkKlansman, they have largely produced genre offerings such as Five Nights at Freddy’s and M3GAN.

In addition to being known for their work in the genre, Blumhouse is particularly known for horror movies that offer huge return on investment from slim budgets. This reputation comes off the back of the success of 2009’s Paranormal Activity, which grossed $194.2 million against a production budget of $15,000 and spawned a franchise that so far includes seven feature-length installments. They followed this by putting out successful titles such as the Purge movies (the first of which grossed $91.3 million against a $3 million budget), the Insidious franchise, The Gallows, Sinister, Ouija, and more.

The Woman In The Yard Has Hit A Milestone In Its Sophomore Weekend

The Horror Movie Has Had Mixed Reviews

The Woman in the Yard has hit a domestic milestone. The newest Blumhouse horror movie was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and stars Danielle Deadwyler as Ramona, a grieving woman who is recovering from a car accident when a mysterious and menacing woman draped in black suddenly arrives in her family’s yard. The Woman in the Yard release was preceded by mixed to negative reviews, earning it a 45% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, which was later matched by a 46% score from audiences.

The Woman in the Yard also stars Peyton Jackson, Estella Kahiha, Russell Hornsby, and Okwui Okpokwasili.

Per Deadline, as of Saturday morning, The Woman in the Yard is projected to take in a 3-day total of $4.35 million during its second weekend in theaters at the domestic box office. While it has fallen from No. 4 to No. 5 due to the new release A Minecraft Movie taking No. 1, this sees it hit a cumulative domestic total of $16.5 million, passing the $15 million milestone.

What This Means For The Woman In The Yard

It Might Not Make A Profit In Theaters

Ultimately, despite hitting the $15 million milestone during its second weekend, 2025’s The Woman in the Yard is not on track to become a runaway hit at the level of Blumhouse‘s biggest horror successes. However, the horror title has already surpassed its $12 million budget. Because movies typically need to earn back two and a half times their budgets in theaters in order to turn a profit, this probably places its break-even point somewhere around $30 million. While it might not quite reach that total, it could make up for it with its subsequent VOD and streaming releases.
