As the film continues production, Dwayne Johnson shares a new behind-the-scenes image from Red One and teases its villain. The Rock leads the cast of the upcoming holiday action flick alongside Chris Evans, with Kiernan Shipka, Lucy Liu, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, J.K. Simmons, Nick Kroll, Kristofer Hivju, Wesley Kimmel, and Bonnie Hunt filling out the supporting cast. Since Red One started filming in the fall, Johnson has shared numerous looks at the production, revealing who some of these stars will be playing and hyping up the holiday movie with a wild description. For the most part, though, plot details remain under wraps.
Now, as the Christmas thriller continues filming over the holiday season, Johnson has shared another BTS image from Red One. The photo shows Johnson running during a night shoot, and in the description, the actor dropped an intriguing tease about the film’s potential villain, saying “Sometimes you run towards the fire and sometimes you run…. into Krampus.” In his post, Johnson also gave a shout-out to camera operator Lukasz Bielan, who is seen in the image. What Red One Set Photos Have Revealed About The Movie
Evans shared the first Red One set photo in October commemorating its production start, and since then, Johnson has shared numerous looks behind-the-scenes at the film described as a “globe-trotting action-adventure comedy.” This series of set photos have highlighted the chemistry between the two lead stars, revealed that Simmons will be playing Santa Claus, and showed Johnson filming an action sequence. In the last post, Johnson likened Red One to everything from Jumanji to Miracle on 34th Street, Hobbs & Shaw, Harry Potter, and It’s a Wonderful Life.
Johnson has revealed that he is playing a character named Callum Drift while Evans is Jack O’Malley. Johnson’s recent post is signed with the salutation, “Commander of the E.L.F.,” which indicates Callum holds that title. It’s unclear what E.L.F. is an acronym for in the film’s universe, though at six feet, five inches and 270 pounds, Johnson’s appearance is far from that of an elf, though there is much about Callum’s backstory that is yet to be revealed.
Perhaps the most intriguing Red One tease Johnson has dropped on social media so far is the recent one regarding Krampus, a horned anthropomorphic figure from European folklore who punishes misbehaving children during the Advent season. Red One is said to reimagine holiday mythology, so it would make sense for the film to feature its own unique take on Krampus, who has appeared before in the eponymous 2015 horror comedy and countless other media. While official Red One plot details have yet to be revealed, Johnson’s tease is a strong indication he will be running into Krampus come next holiday season.
