Final Destination Bloodlines Hits Major Global Milestone That Inches Closer To A Franchise Record

Final Destination Bloodlines has passed a major box office milestone. The 2025 movie, which was directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein from a screenplay by Guy Busick and Lori Evans Taylor, is the sixth installment in the horror franchise, which follows Death hunting down people who have escaped disaster via premonitions and killing them in a variety of creatively gory ways. The Final Destination Bloodlines release had a promising start, grossing $102 million worldwide during its opening weekend and outgrossing the entire run of 2003’s Final Destination 2 in just three days.

Per Variety, as of Sunday morning, Final Destination Bloodlines is projected to end its second weekend in theaters by hitting a cumulative worldwide gross of $187 million, with $94.6 million of that total coming from domestic theaters. This means that it has already hit the $150 million milestone at the global box office as of Friday, making it only the seventh 2025 release to have that major achievement, after Snow White ($204.9 million as of Friday), Sinners ($329 million), Thunderbolts* ($335.3 million), Captain America: Brave New World ($415.1 million), A Minecraft Movie ($934.3 million), and Ne Zha 2 ($1.899 billion).

What This Means For Final Destination Bloodlines

It Is Close To A Major Franchise Record

While the Bloodlines release couldn’t avoid a rough drop of more than 60% (which is common for the horror genre, but was not the case for the first three movies in the franchise), it is still well on its way toward breaking a major record for the horror series. If it can surpass the $187.4 million haul of the 2009 installment, it will become the highest-grossing of the six movies. Below, see a breakdown of the financial performance of the previous Final Destination movies:

Title

Domestic Debut

Worldwide Box Office

Final Destination (2000)

$10 million

$112 million

Final Destination 2 (2003)

$16 million

$90.4 million

Final Destination 3 (2006)

$19.2 million

$112.8 million

The Final Destination (2009)

$27.4 million

$187.4 million

Final Destination 5 (2011)

$18 million

$155 million

While the overwhelmingly positive Final Destination Bloodlines reviews that earned it a Certified Fresh Rotten Tomatoes score of 92% (by far the best of the franchise) did not prevent it from having a common horror drop, the fact that both Lilo & Stitch and Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning debuted during its sophomore weekend, providing huge blockbuster competition over Memorial Day, could have contributed to that. Its glowing reviews from both critics and audiences could help it maintain better audience hold over the coming weeks, helping it easily close the gap between itself and the fourth installment, and then some.

Our Take On The Final Destination Bloodlines Milestone

The Franchise Is Being Reinvigorated

The fact that Final Destination Bloodlines is drawing close to an all-time record after just 10 days at the box office shows that the new installment is a success at a level that has not been seen before for the franchise. This means that the possible Final Destination 7 will almost certainly be greenlit before long, preventing the series from backsliding into another hiatus of more than a decade. In fact, it could result in a new branch of the franchise that is even more robust than before, with sequels coming at a steady clip.
