It Just Seems Like The Universe Gave Her Something

An Agatha All Along hero’s already tragic story becomes even more heartbreaking thanks to an MCU actor’s insight into their character’s perspective. In Agatha All Along, Joe Locke’s mysterious “Billy” is revealed to be the reincarnation of Wanda Maximoff’s son Billy Maximoff, who takes over the body of an unrelated teenager, Billy Kaplan. This is a faithful adaptation of Wiccan’s Marvel Comics origin, only this time, Billy discovers his magical roots with Agatha Harkness’ help.

In an interview with ScreenRant at Sundance about her role in the movie Plainclothes, Agatha All Along actor Maria Dizzia, who played Billy Kaplan’s mother Rebecca Kaplan, explains whether Rebecca would want to keep her connection to Billy if she learned that another person now inhabits her son’s body. Dizzia reveals that Rebecca would accept Billy Maximoff even though Billy Kaplan’s death would be a painful discovery. Read Maria Dizzia’s full answer:

I think that she would want to keep it. I think that she would also really still have to mourn the soul of her son, but there are a lot of ways in which her new son is a gift to her. It just seems like the universe gave her something, and so I don’t feel that she would reject him.

Neither Rebecca Nor Billy Have Realized They Can Talk About Billy Kaplan’s Death

Billy’s reincarnation was confusing and distressing for Billy Maximoff’s mind inside Billy Kaplan’s body, but he kept it a secret from Billy Kaplan’s parents and tried to maintain a normal relationship with them. Maria Dizzia’s comments about Rebecca’s possible reaction to Billy’s reincarnation make Billy’s decision to keep it a secret more heartbreaking, as Rebecca would understand Billy’s mixed feelings and accept him as a new son, yet she hasn’t had the chance to learn about her son’s complicated issues yet. Likewise, Billy still doesn’t know he could reveal his secret to Rebecca and find a new ally in her.

Billy Maximoff’s Wiccan has finally returned to the MCU, and he has already demonstrated powers similar to his mother, Wanda Maximoff’s Scarlet Witch.

By the end of Agatha All Along episode 9, Billy is ready to begin his search for his twin brother Tommy, and his desire to learn more about Scarlet Witch’s true status hasn’t been quenched. Billy’s next MCU appearance will probably center around either or both. Meanwhile, Rebecca Kaplan will likely remain in the dark about her original son’s death, and she will likely continue to believe that Billy is just behaving strangely out of the sudden.

Billy Maximoff’s origin spells tragedy for all people involved, including both Billys, Tommy, Wanda Maximoff, Vision, and Billy Kaplan’s parents Rebecca and Jeff. Whether Billy will ever reunite with Wanda Maximoff is unknown. In fact, Scarlet Witch’s return is still uncertain. But Billy’s chance to find a new mother figure in Rebecca is right in front of him. Unfortunately, Billy is much more likely to continue his search for Tommy and Wanda, distancing him from Rebecca. Still, a single scene where Billy reveals the truth to his new mother could be a heartwarming moment for both.
