The trailer for Love Me unveils more of the post-apocalyptic romance movie. The upcoming release, which is the debut feature of co-writers and co-directors Sam and Andy Zuchero, stars Kristen Stewart and Steven Yeun as a buoy and a satellite who assign themselves human forms and fall in love after humanity’s end. Early Love Me reviews coming out of the movie’s premiere at Sundance in January 2024 have been mixed, resulting in the movie so far earning a 47% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Bleecker Street has now debuted the official trailer for Love Me online. The trailer kicks off by following the initiation of the connection between the two artificial intelligences as they experiment with using virtual avatars inspired by YouTubers who are also played by Stewart and Yeun. As their bond strengthens and they learn about the world through whatever information survives on the Internet, they begin to develop more of a consciousness and ask big questions about their love, their future, and their own existence. What This Means For Love Me
Both Stars Continue To Make Interesting Choices
What the trailer for the new Kristen Stewart movie proves is that the star is continuing to make interesting choices for her projects following her breakthrough role in the Twilight franchise. After playing Stephenie Meyer’s romantic heroine Bella Swan, Stewart has been drawn to a wide variety of roles, with some of the most notable being in arthouse movies, including her Oscar-nominated performance as Princess Diana in 2021’s Spencer. Other unique or genre-bending projects in which she has starred include 2024’s Love Lies Bleeding, 2016’s Personal Shopper, and 2022’s Crimes of the Future.
Kristen Stewart lost the 2022 Best Actress Oscar to Jessica Chastain in The Eyes of Tammy Faye.
Steven Yeun, who is also an Oscar nominee for his performance in 2020’s Minari, has similarly appeared in a variety of unique genre projects since his breakout role as Glenn Rhee in The Walking Dead. Love Me seems like a natural next step after his appearances in a variety of movies including Jordan Peele’s Nope and Bong Joon-ho’s Okja as well as television shows such as the animated superhero series Invincible and the hit Netflix feud drama Beef.
Our Take On The Love Me Trailer
The Movie’s Success Is Not Guaranteed
Although the premise of Love Me is unique, it remains to be seen if the Kristen Stewart and Steven Yeun movie connects with audiences. Although they are both Oscar nominees, Kristen Stewart has not been at the center of a major blockbuster in years, and Yeun has never held a lead role in a theatrical tentpole. However, the trailer highlights what a unique spin on the romance genre it is, which could help increase interest in the project as its late January theatrical release date approaches.
