With just two months remaining until its arrival, the new Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania trailer’s release date has been revealed, and it’s soon. The Marvel Cinematic Universe threequel will mark the first theatrical release for Phase 5 of the superhero franchise, as well as the first of the year, coming just a couple of months after James Gunn’s The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special scored widespread acclaim on Disney+. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is also set to further the MCU’s dive into its Multiverse Saga, and audiences will soon be getting deeper insight for what’s to come from the Quantum Realm-set adventure.
As anticipation grows for the film’s villain, Marvel has announced the new Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania trailer’s release date. The new footage for the MCU sequel, which was announced during the Fiesta Bowl NCAA Football game between Michigan and Texas Christian University, of which Screen Rant viewed on ESPN, will air during the National College Football Championship game on the sports network, which begins on Monday, January 9 at 7:30 p.m. EST. At the time of writing, it’s not known at what point in the game the new Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania trailer will premiere.
Everything We Know About Ant-Man & The Wasp Quantumania
Exact plot details for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania are minimal at this point, with the sole trailer released for the film revealing that Cassie Lang has helped develop a device that can send a signal down into the Quantum Realm, though it instead pulls her, her titular father, his superhero partner and her parents into the realm. While looking for a way back to their world, Cassie, Scott, Hope, Hank and Janet will cross paths with Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror, who is expected to be the next big bad for the MCU after Thanos’ defeat in Avengers: Endgame. Previous Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania footage has kept Kang’s role in the film a little ambiguous, with dialogue seeing him offering to help Rudd’s hero and his family escape the Quantum Realm, while still proving to be rather menacing and mentioning having killed Avengers in the past.
In addition to Rudd and Evangeline Lilly, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will feature the MCU returns of Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer as Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne, Majors as a proper Kang variant, David Dastmalchian as Kurt and Randall Park as Agent Woo. The MCU threequel will also feature a slew of MCU debuts, including Kathryn Newton as Scott’s daughter Cassie, with the Freaky actor taking over the part from Avengers: Endgame‘s Emma Fuhrmann, Bill Murray in an undisclosed villain role and The Good Place‘s William Jackson Harper in a very secretive role. The sole role confirmed for the film without a revealed cast member is that of M.O.D.O.K., the mutated and cybernetically enhanced scientist briefly seen in a previous trailer and in merchandise.
Given the new Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania trailer is coming just over a month ahead of its release, it seems unlikely that Marvel Studios will be giving too many of the film’s secrets away so close to its premiere. However, with many unknowns still surrounding the film, including how much of a villain Kang actually will be in the story and how M.O.D.O.K. fits into the threequel, it will be interesting to see what new tidbits are given to build further anticipation for its February 17 arrival. Only time will tell when Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania‘s new trailer debuts on January 9.
