Spider-Verse 3 Movie Villain Confirmed By Director

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Beyond the Spider-Verse co-director Kemp Powers confirms the Spot will be the villain for both upcoming films.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse director Kemp Powers has confirmed that the film’s main villain, the Spot, will continue to be the primary antagonist in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. Voiced by Jason Schwartzman, the Spot was revealed as Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse‘s villain in June of this year. The Spot will have a major role in bringing different Spider-Men and Spider-People back together to save the multiverse from the threat he poses, though his motive and overall goal remain shrouded in mystery. Eagerly anticipated by many, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will debut in theaters next June.

As reported by Total Film (via Games Radar), Powers reveals that the Spot will be the main villain of both Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and its sequel, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. The director also indicates a connection between the new villain and returning protagonist Miles Morales, although he doesn’t elaborate on how the pair will cross paths in the films. Check out what Powers has to say below:

The Spot is an interesting villain because he seems like a joke, but when you really look at his powers, there’s incredible potential. His ability to open portals across dimensions sets him up perfectly for the Spider-Verse. He’s the villain of the next two films… and let’s just say that the Spot and Miles are connected in surprising ways.

Miles Morales Spider-Man Across Spider-Verse 2

The confirmation that the Spot will continue to be the villain for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse underscores how connected the film is to Across the Spider-Verse despite no longer bearing a similar title. The pair of films were announced in December 2021 as Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse Part 1 and Part 2 before the second film was renamed Beyond the Spider-Verse in April 2022. Despite the name change, the films will continue to have a connected storyline that spans both releases, something that has been confirmed now that Powers has said the Spot will maintain his role as the main villain in the third Spider-Verse film.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will see Miles Morales reunite with Gwen Stacy’s Spider-Woman to face the Spot’s threat to the multiverse. Along the way, the duo will team up with new Spider-Men from different dimensions, including Spider-Man 2099 (played by Oscar Issac), and Spider-Punk, as portrayed by Get Out and Black Panther star Daniel Kaluuya. Jake Johnson will also be returning as Peter B. Parker, an older version of Spider-Man that helped train Miles in Into the Spider-Verse. The film already promises to be another exciting Spider-Man adventure utilizing the multiverse, while also teasing Miles and Gwen’s intersecting character arcs during the movie.

While it’s unclear what the Spot’s primary goal in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Beyond the Spider-Verse will be, his ability to travel across dimensions makes it clear that he may also be how the multidimensional characters are able to come together in the films. Spider-Man 2099’s appearance in Into the Spider-Verse‘s post-credits scene also indicates his particular importance in both films. Perhaps the Spot and his dimensional powers have done something to Miguel O’Hara’s world, prompting him to gather Spider-Men across dimensions to assist him in defeating the villain. Powers confirming the Spot appear as the villain in both Across the Spider-Verse and Beyond the Spider-Verse highlights just how much of a force to be reckoned with this new antagonist will truly be.
