Lauren LaVera is back and being terrorized by a very different kind of demonic force in The Fetus. LaVera leads the cast of the horror movie as Alessa, a woman who is shocked to learn she’s pregnant and, with her boyfriend, begins investigating the source of her pregnancy, which turns out to be of a demonic origin. Alongside LaVera, the Fetus cast includes fellow horror genre icon and frequent Rob Zombie collaborator Bill Moseley as Alessa’s father, Maddox, and Are You Afraid of the Dark? alum Julian Curtis as her boyfriend, Chris.
With just over two months remaining until the movie hits theaters, Shining Light Pictures has released the first The Fetus trailer. The video begins by introducing Alessa and Chris, with the former being surprised by the revelation from her doctor that she’s pregnant, while also warning the latter that her body doesn’t work in the way most others do. The trailer then shows them heading to her father’s isolated home in the hopes of getting help determining how to proceed with the pregnancy.
The Fetus trailer then shifts to show that Maddox may not be as benevolent as the young couple hoped, chaining them up in a back room while being thoroughly aggressive with Chris. It’s then revealed that something residing inside Alessa is actually demonic, and that they have to feed it random victims in order to prevent it from killing her, all while they grapple with what to do with the entity living in her. What The Fetus Trailer Reveals About The Horror Movie
LaVera Is Getting Her Very Own Rosemary’s Baby
The first trailer for The Fetus looks to be striving for a wild and fresh take on the Rosemary’s Baby formula by actually establishing that the baby at the heart of the story is of a demonic nature. Additionally, the trailer seems to allude to the fact that Maddox may actually have something to do with Alessa’s situation, telling her at some point that he thought she would be able to grow up normally. The one thing the trailer doesn’t make clear is whether she was aware this was a possibility, especially since she acknowledges her body is different.
One thing the Fetus trailer does make clear is that LaVera is very well on the way to continuing her streak in the blood-soaked horror genre. The movie comes a few months after her return to her star-making franchise with Terrifier 3, which not only garnered generally positive reviews from critics and audiences alike, but also set numerous box office records, including the highest-grossing unrated film and Terrifier movie yet. While The Fetus may be a different horror subgenre, the promise of gory practical effects for the demonic baby harkens back to her time as Sienna Shaw.
Our Take On The Fetus Trailer
LaVera Is Getting To Showcase Her Acting Range
While there’s still a lot yet to be revealed about the movie, namely a specific release date instead of its March 2025 release window, the first trailer for The Fetus certainly does give me a lot of hope for the movie’s potential. Writer/director Joe Lam has also stated that his intention is to offer a “thought-provoking pro-choice/pro-life debate” through the movie’s story, a topic that was also interestingly handled in last year’s The First Omen and, if handled sensitively, can be a powerful and resonant exploration.

Terrifier 3 Makes Sienna Unique From All Other Major Slasher Franchise Leads With New Tease
Lauren LaVera’s Sienna Shaw redefined what it means to be a “final girl” in a slasher film, but one Terrifier 3 tease could mean she’s totally unique.
Ultimately, the biggest thing The Fetus has going for it is LaVera in the lead role, and the trailer has me quite intrigued as to her role in the film. While Terrifier‘s Sienna is undeniably a strong character, it’s in a very different way compared to what the trailer showed about Alessa, and if this proves to be true in the film, it can act as a great showcase of the range she has in her acting talents and open doors for her to expand both within and outside of the horror genre.
