Hope van Dyne had a son in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania deleted scenes. Evangeline Lilly’s Wasp character returned to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to kick off Phase 5 as she joined Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man in fighting Kang the Conqueror. The movie included a few major revelations about Hope’s life after Avengers: Endgame, such as taking over Pym Technologies and renaming it Pym Van Dyne Foundation. She also continued to grow closer to Scott, his daughter Cassie Lang, and Hope’s parents Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne.
It has now been revealed that an Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania deleted scene was meant to reveal Hope has a son, as it was revealed child actor Lucas Grant was cast in the scrapped role in a new Instagram post that teases the alternate storyline.
The photos show Lucas Grant as Hope’s son on set with Ant-Man franchise star Evangeline Lilly, while another shows him standing next to Hope as she holds a young girl – possibly her daughter. Hope van Dyne noticeably has long hair in this Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania deleted scene, which is a completely different look than the pixie cut she had throughout the entirety of the final movie.
How Hope’s Son Deleted Scene Could Have Fit Into Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
There are plenty of aspects of Hope having a son (and possibly a daughter too) in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania that do not line up with the final cut of the film. Lucas Grant is four years old in real life, but it is impossible for Hope to have a son of that age in this film. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is set in 2025 in the MCU timeline, but she was not noticeably pregnant when she returned from Thanos’ snap two years prior. As a result, Hope’s son could be a hint of a plan for a time jump at the end of the movie.
Hope’s son being born after a time jump would help make sense of this Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania deleted scene. It lines up with her very different hairstyle and is the better option than retconning a child into her past that no one ever mentioned. This points to potentially a very different Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantuamania ending. Based on the number of blue screens around them, it is possible Hope and Scott were meant to be trapped in the Quantum Realm at the end, with them starting a family together there.
The other possibility is that the multiverse could have factored into Hope’s son’s deleted scene. This could have been a glimpse at a timeline where Janet van Dyne never went missing and Hope’s life went very differently. Now that the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania deleted scene has surfaced, hopefully Marvel Studios will release the contents of the scene officially and reveal more about what could have been.
