The X-Men won’t be in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, according to film scribe Jeff Loveness. After his first foray into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania, Loveness continues his work in the franchise by writing its next big culminating event. Set to release in 2025, the movie will see Earth’s Mightiest Heroes go up against Kang the Conqueror.
Despite the X-Men’s inevitable MCU arrival, however, Loveness says that the mutants won’t be part of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty in a new interview with Phase Zero. Watch the full conversation below:
Previously, Loveness already cast doubts that Avengers: The Kang Dynasty will feature the Fantastic Four and Blade despite the fact that the characters are confirmed to debut before the film. Unlike his previous comments, however, it sounds like he is quite sure that the mutants won’t be showing up in the Avengers’ next big fight because they are being saved for the future, saying:
“No, I think all that stuff is pretty far away. I mean, I know they’re making Fantastic Four, but that’s its own thing. So, no, I mean, look, I’m the biggest X-Men guy in the world… No, no, no. I think that’s being saved for a bit. But, you know, these Avengers are in trouble. They got a lot going on with Kang. They got more than enough to handle.”
Why Avengers 5 Not Having The X-Men Actually Makes Sense
The Avengers films have changed their function in the Multiverse Saga. Initially, they were meant to show Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’ mission, but after Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, that’s no longer the case. In fact, it’s still unclear who the Avengers are in the Multiverse Saga. However, if Marvel Studios is planning on another massive ensemble in The Kang Dynasty, then it’s best that the X-Men aren’t involved.
It would already be tricky enough to pull together all existing pockets of the MCU at this point since there have been minimal substantial crossovers in light of the franchise’s overarching narrative. Meanwhile, supposed primary players such as Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch haven’t been properly developed the same way Iron Man and Captain America were leading up to Avengers: Infinity War. Given these, Marvel Studios needs to put extra focus on them in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, and bringing in the X-Men could potentially distract from that endeavor.
Whatever the case may be, there’s no denying that Marvel Studios is gearing up for the arrival of the X-Men in the MCU. Even if they don’t fully get involved in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, perhaps the film will include a reference to them that would pave the way for their proper introduction. At least there’s Deadpool 3 before all that chaos, however, which will see the reunion of fan-favorite mutants, Deadpool and Wolverine.
