Angel stars David Boreanaz and Charisma Carpenter reunite 21 years after last appearing on screen together. The pair originally kickstarted their careers in 1997, appearing in Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 1. Carpenter was a series regular, while Boreanaz was billed as a guest star for the debut outing. They would both be spun off into Angel in 1999 as two of the three main leads. Boreanaz would lead the series throughout five seasons, while Carpenter would be written out following season 4. She made one final appearance as Cordelia Chase in season 5 during the 100th episode, “You’re Welcome.”
On Carpenter’s Instagram stories, she shares images of her and Boreanaz. She notes that “I can’t believe this but I have known this man longer than half of my life. And he is still as silly and fun as he has always been. Love you friend!” While they may not have shared the screen in decades, they have reunited in the time since, including for the 20th anniversary of Angel. These new images show the former stars still enjoying time together after nearly 30 years.
What This Means For The Future Of The Franchise
Both Could Potentially Return To Their Iconic Characters
After a divisive Angel season 4, Carpenter was removed from the series. Her character of Cordelia hardly appeared, with Carpenter playing a version of the character throughout the season that was overtaken by a higher being, Jasmine. After having one of the best character arcs in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer franchise, going from a self-involved high schooler to a champion that wanted to help the helpless, viewers felt her story came down to character assassination following seven years of growth.
While her delivery of “Oh, and you’re welcome” is devastating, her nonverbal performance where her face breaks for just a moment after that line is top-tier acting.
Angel and Cordelia became a major love story. While it never had the drama-filled on-again-off-again romance that Buffy and Angel had, the series treated them like adults who developed an attraction over time. They had an energy that played well with the characters, as Angel was forced to come out of his brooding shell due to Cordelia’s infectious energy. Neither actor has been confirmed to return for the Buffy the Vampire Slayer sequel, but Carpenter has expressed interest. Prior to the announcement of the new series, Boreanaz has denied wanting to return to play the vampire with a soul.
Our Take On Carpenter’s Post
The Duo Will Hopefully Reunite On Screen
Carpenter’s exit from Angel was unfortunate as she had been a steadying force throughout the series. She agreed to return with the stipulation that she would not be killed off, which ultimately is what takes place during the episode. She has been vocal about her disappointment on this topic, which is understandable.

What Charisma Carpenter Has Done Since Buffy The Vampire Slayer Ended
After a long run as popular character Cordelia Chase on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, Charisma Carpenter has stayed busy on TV and in movies.
However, despite the negative circumstances around her final episode, I firmly believe she gives the best performance of the series in her last scene. Cordelia returns as The Powers That Be “owed [her] one” so she could get Angel back on track now that he is running the evil Wolfram & Hart law firm. While her delivery of “Oh, and you’re welcome” is devastating, her nonverbal performance where her face breaks for just a moment after that line is top-tier acting. It would delight fans to see them both again all these years after their characters parted ways on Angel.
