Born Again Episode 9’s Hospital Scene Where Matt Murdock Says Karen Page’s Name Addressed By Heather Glenn Actress

WARNING: This article includes SPOILERS from Daredevil: Born Again episode 9.Following the events of Daredevil: Born Again episode 9, Margarita Levieva breaks down some of Heather Glenn’s big moments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe finale. Following the big ending to Daredevil: Born Again episode 8, things only took a dire turn after Matt Murdock took a literal bullet for Mayor Wilson Fisk. But the Daredevil: Born Again finale also had some shocking moments for Dr. Glenn that set up season 2.

ScreenRant recently caught up with Levieva to discuss some of the pivotal moments in the Daredevil: Born Again season 1 finale. One of the scenes discussed was Heather reacting to Matt uttering Karen Page’s name when he wakes up in the hospital after the gala and whether that may affect their relationship. While definitely a surprise to Heather, Levieva stressed that her character is more understanding of the situation, as she shared the following:

Margarita Levieva: Yeah, for sure. I think it’s also one of the things that Heather is living with, but perhaps not willing to quite face. Because I think the time between the breakup with Karen and Heather, although is significant, it’s also emotionally, I think, not quite enough for Matt. I think Heather knows that, and also is willing to sort of push that aside. But there’s a sense of it. There’s even a scene at the beginning of seven when Heather confronts Matt about him keeping secrets and feeling off and doing things that put him at risk, and her feeling like he’s acting out.

He says that, ‘I feel like this life is not real,’ or I forget the exact term that he uses, but it’s quite jarring to hear, for someone who’s living with someone dating someone seriously, that the life that they’re living doesn’t feel like the real life to them, it’s very hurtful. I think the seeds are there throughout to let Heather know that obviously whatever feelings he has for Karen are still there. I think, because Heather really wants this thing with Matt, I think it’s something that she’s, again, willing to overlook until she can’t.

However, the Daredevil: Born Again season 1 finale also set up Heather for a whole new arc in season 2 as she made the decision to join Mayor Fisk as his new admin commissioner of mental health. When asked about Heather’s choices and if this puts her in more danger, especially as Levieva’s Marvel character has a very dark death in the comics, the Daredevil: Born Again star gave the following response:

Margarita Levieva: Yes… I don’t know how much we’re gonna follow that storyline exactly.

ScreenRant: Yeah, she’s a very, very different Heather from what I understand.

Margarita Levieva: Yeah, she’s a very different character. That last moment is quite dramatic to say the least. And I certainly didn’t see it coming when I first signed up for the job and read the role, and I was very excited to read about that scene. To read that scene, I feel like Heather has always had a kinship with Fisk’s character, even in the therapy sessions. It was just intuitively before I knew where it would go.

[It] is something that I felt like there was something about him being so fully who he is, that is attractive to Heather. Someone who’s just like, ‘I’m not hiding that I’m a dangerous man.’ I think, if anything, it’s the lies and the deception that really hurt her eventually. So to work for someone who’s now taking matters into his own hands and has power after such a traumatic experience, just feels like the next right thing.

Given the long and rich history that Karen and Matt have in the MCU, she is one of the closest people in Daredevil’s life, which would perfectly explain why she would be one of the first people that comes to his mind after he was almost killed. Based on Levieva’s comments, Matt’s Karen moment may not be a problem for the time being. Whether that will continue to be the case in Daredevil: Born Again season 2 remains to be seen for the time being.

When it comes to Heather’s decision to join Mayor Fisk, as Levieva stated herself, it’s crucial to remember that she has gotten to know Kingpin on a very different level throughout Daredevil: Born Again season 1. Given what Mayor Fisk is offering her, it is very understandable why Heather would want to join forces with him. However, it wouldn’t be shocking if Heather gets a different perspective on what he really wants her to do under his administration as they get into Daredevil: Born Again season 2.

From everything Levieva shared with ScreenRant about Heather’s development in Daredevil: Born Again episode 9, it will be fascinating to see how her character continues to grow in the MCU when the show returns in 2026. Time will tell whether Heather is going to regret some of her choices in this finale, especially once she begins to see what Mayor Fisk is really up to. Hopefully, as Daredevil: Born Again season 2 is currently filming, more details about Heather’s future will be revealed in due time.
