Doctor Who Season 15 Images Reveal New Looks At Ncuti Gatwa’s Next Companion & Alan Cumming’s Second Whoniverse Character

Doctor Who season 15 images have revealed new looks at Ncui Gatwa’s next companion and Alan Cumming’s second Whoniverse character as the sci-fi show’s adventures continue. Doctor Who season 15 will be the second for Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor, who is expected to continue his journeys across time and space after Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson) seemingly left his side during season 14. It’s already been confirmed that he’ll be meeting a new companion in the form of Belinda Chandra (Varada Sethu), who will be accompanying him on his travels in the forthcoming episodes.

Now, Disney and the BBC have revealed new images from Doctor Who season 15, offering a new look at Sethu’s Belinda and revealing Cumming’s second Whoniverse character. The new posters show the Fifteenth Doctor and his new companion, while also confirming a release date of Saturday, April 12 for the premiere episode. Season 15, episode 2 will also introduce Cumming as Mr. Ring-a-Ding, a cartoon character from Sunny Town who lives with his friend, Sunshine Sally, until the “terrifying” consequences of him becoming self-aware in 1952. Showrunner Russell T Davies also spoke about Cumming returning to the show in a new capacity, after portraying King James I in season 11, episode 8, “The Witchfinders.” He praised him for bringing “wit, malice, danger and fun” to his new character through the world of animation. Check out what Davies had to say below:

Only Alan Cumming could give a runaway cartoon so much wit, malice, danger and fun. He makes the whole universe of ‘Doctor Who’ wilder and madder than ever, and it’s an absolute honour to welcome him on board the TARDIS.

Doctor Who season 15 will be available on Disney+, the BBC, and BBC iPlayer and release new episodes weekly.

What Doctor Who’s New Posters & Images Say About Season 15

The Show Is Expanding With Plenty Of New Stories

Doctor Who season 14 ended with the Fifteenth Doctor lacking a companion, with Belinda yet to be introduced in the series. The season synopsis reveals he’ll be trying to get her back to Earth, encountering a “mysterious force” that keeps the pair from getting to where she’s supposed to be. Despite the new companion’s central focus in the story, Ruby will be coming back during season 15 as well, hinting at expansive new adventures as both the Doctor’s friends become major parts of the journey to come.

TARDIS lore is pivotal to several Doctor Who storylines, but the show’s Disney era has forgotten about an important aspect of the Doctor’s blue box.

As the Cumming’s character, it seems his appearance in season 15, episode 2 will bring about his most memorable role on the series thus far. While not much is known about Mr. Ring-a-Ding’s motivations, the character appears to be a stylistic homage to early cartoons. This makes him stand out from previous characters in Doctor Who, made evident by the fact his self-awareness will have scary results for the Doctor, Belinda, and possibly even Ruby to contend with. However, the extent of how threatening he’ll be remains to be shown.
