Dragon Ball Daima Producer Raises Questions After Dodging Question About the Anime’s Finale

Dragon Ball Daima has been running for a while now, but fans still don’t know how long to expect the series to be. A recent interview with producer Akio Iyoku offered the chance to clarify this question, but fans were left as confused as ever when Iyoku refused to answer.

Dragon Ball Daima debuted on TV both in Japan and around the world on streaming on October 11, 2024, and 12 episodes have been aired in the time since. Despite rumors that the series will consist of 20 episodes, the fact of the matter is that fans don’t know how long Daima will be at this stage. All episodes were said to have been completely animated before the first episode premiered, so the series is done and “in the can,” so to speak. It doesn’t seem like revealing the episode count would have a major impact on the series’ reception or anything like that, so why the secrecy?

What Dragon Ball Daima’s Length Could Mean

Daima’s Episode Count Could Reveal The Series’ Direction

In an interview with the “All Night Nippon – Dragon Ball 40th Anniversary Special” radio show in Japan on January 1, 2025, which was partially translated by X (formerly Twitter) user @peraperayume, Aki Iyoku was asked about the final episode of Daima, but declined to answer the question. While it’s obvious why he might not want to talk details about the finale, as that might constitute spoilers, there’s still plenty that can be said about the final episode without spoiling the story. Confirming the episode count would have no real negative impact, after all.

While most fans expect Daima to be a one-and-done, limited-run special event series, there’s always the possibility that a second season of Daima is already being planned. Talking about the final episode might reveal that it’s not a conclusion to the series, and that Daima‘s storyline will continue into another season. This might upset some fans who are looking forward to a conclusion this season, as well as those who are hoping for a return of Dragon Ball Super to cover the manga’s remaining unadapted story arcs.

Dragon Ball Daima’s Future May Not Yet Be Set

While the Episodes are Done, the Story May Not Be

Another possibility is that it simply hasn’t been decided if Dragon Ball Daima will continue or not. The current storyline surrounding Gomah and his conspiracy may be wrapped up by the end of Daima‘s final episode, but that wouldn’t necessarily mean the end for the series. It could always continue on to another villain, much like other Dragon Ball series, presumably one still tied to the Demon Realm that the series takes its title from.

Whatever the case may be, Iyoku’s unwillingness to even speak vaguely about the finale is certainly interesting from a fan perspective. Daima‘s ending is being kept a closely guarded secret, even this far into the series. Hopefully, as more episodes of Dragon Ball Daima are released, the situation will become clearer regarding the series’ final episode.
