Grosse Pointe Garden Society season 2 may not happen on NBC, but the show could still get a lifeline. Created by Jenna Bans and Bill Krebs, and with a main cast that is led by Melissa Fumero, Aja Naomi King, Ben Rappaport, and AnnaSophia Robb, the crime dramedy focuses on four members of a suburban garden club who work together to cover up a murder. The series has struggled in the ratings since its February debut, but a new report offers a glimmer of hope.
In its report about the NBC programs that have yet to be renewed, Deadline mentions that Grosse Pointe Garden is dead last in the ratings. It was recently moved to Fridays at 8 PM ET, and so far, the increase in viewership is not enough to warrant a season 2 renewal. However, the show is well-liked by executives, and it could move to the NBCUniversal-owned streaming service Peacock.
What This Means For Grosse Pointe Garden Society
It’s Still A Bit Of A Toss-Up
The reality facing NBC is that it still has several renewal decisions to make, most of which happen to be drama shows. Even though it hasn’t performed as well as initially hoped, the Stephen Amell-led Suits: LA is considered likely for renewal because NBC invested a lot in the show’s first season and wants to give the legal drama room to grow. Franchises such as One Chicago and Law & Order are also thought of as locks for renewal.
But outside of Happy’s Place and St. Denis Medical, both of which received early renewals, the NBC lineup is still mostly undecided. As it relates to Grosse Pointe Garden Society specifically, the series debuted with 2.60 million viewers. Now, in its seventh installment, at this time of writing, the dramedy averages about 1.5-1.7 million per episode when short-term delayed viewership is factored in.

Melissa Fumero’s new role in NBC’s Grosse Pointe Garden Society is nothing like her role as Amy Santiago in the sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
These numbers do include the audience on Peacock, and the murder mystery appeared in the streamer’s Top 10. It also costs significantly less than a Peacock Original, according to the reporting, which would make it an attractive option for the streamer to pick up. It is still considered a “long shot”, but the move is possible. NBC previously moved Law & Order: Organized Crime season 5 to Peacock, following negotiations with producers.
Our Take On Grosse Pointe Garden Society’s Future
Please Renew It
Grosse Pointe Garden Society is not a great show just yet, but it has potential. Between the co-creators, who previously worked on the well-reviewed series Good Girls, and the talented cast, it deserves the same allowance that Suits: LA may well receive. It has already staged a fun reunion between King and Jack Falahee, who starred together in How to Get Away with Murder. If given time, it could develop more and fully tap into its voice.
