Dana Vasquez-Eberhardt, executive producer of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, recently discussed how the Disney+ show adapted the popular Marvel hero. The series follows a Peter Parker who is a freshman in high school adjusting to his powers, and it features prominent Spider-Man characters left out of the live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe films starring Tom Holland. Most importantly, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man includes Norman and Harry Osborn, whose MCU counterparts have not been introduced. Despite this, the series omits two of the most important Spider-Man characters in this continuity: Ned Leeds and Michelle Jones-Watson.
In an appearance on The Official Marvel Podcast, Vasquez-Eberhardt opened up about the differences between Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man and the MCU Spider-Man films:
“We’re starting at a point in the MCU where Civil War has happened, so the Sokovia Accords have been ratified so it’s modern day and then Peter gets to his first day at Midtown…then a thing happens which I’m going to try and dance around and there goes our branch. It’s a very recognizable world but Peter doesn’t end up going to Midtown. It’s a world where he never met Ned, he never met MJ. “
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man follows Peter Parker as he embarks on a journey to embrace his destiny as a hero. The film explores his unconventional path and the challenges he faces in balancing his newfound responsibilities with the ordinary aspects of his life. Released in 2025.
