The first trailer for the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Abbott Elementary crossover has debuted. The crossover event begins with It’s Always Sunny‘s cast appearing in Abbott Elementary season 4, episode 9, airing on ABC on January 8. In the episode, Ava (Janelle James) announces that the school district is sending volunteers to come to the school and help out, only for the volunteers to be It’s Always Sunny‘s characters. The crossover will continue at a later date on It’s Always Sunny when Abbott Elementary‘s characters come to Paddy’s Pub.
As shared via TV Promos, the first official trailer shows It’s Always Sunny‘s characters creating trouble at Abbott Elementary. Janine (Quinta Brunson) cheerfully welcomes It’s Always Sunny‘s characters to Abbott, but it does not take long for things to go amiss. Mr. Johnson (William Stanford Davis) and Frank (Danny DeVito) argue about which one of them is trash and the scoreboard comes crashing down to the floor in the school gym. What This Means For The Crossover
The Trailer Teases More Unexpected Character Pairings
After considerable anticipation, the trailer offers the best look yet at the unlikely crossover between the two series set in Philadelphia, and confirms an imminent release. One Abbott Elementary and It’s Always Sunny character pairing was previously confirmed by Davis, who revealed that Mr. Johnson will spend much of the episode with Frank. Their contentious and hilarious dynamic is on full display in the trailer. Mr. Johnston is immediately suspicious and Frank tries to see what he can take from the school.

It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia has been remarkably consistent since day one, which makes finding the best season tough.
Mac (Rob McElhenney) and Ava appear to be another character pairing as Mac unsubtly tries to hit on her. As for Gregory (Tyler James Williams), it seems that Deandra (Kaitlin Olson) will be the latest woman pursuing him despite his current relationship with Janine and his heart clearly belonging to her. These character pairings and the entire trailer make the Abbott Elementary and It’s Always Sunny crossover look appropriately chaotic given the two wildly different casts of characters.
Our Take On The It’s Always Sunny And Abbott Elementary Crossover
It Looks Like A Hilarious First Episode Of 2025
Between It’s Always Sunny‘s characters being initially unsure of where they are and Mr. Johnson arguing with Frank, the crossover looks like it will be comedic gold. Even though the two series are set in Philadelphia, I wondered how Abbott Elementary would explain the crossover, and It’s Always Sunny Characters being unqualified volunteers sent by the school district is a premise that works perfectly for both series. I am eager to see the crossover begin on Abbott Elementary and look forward to it continuing later on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
