Long Bright River Season 2 Gets Cautious Response From Creators

This article contains SPOILERS from the Long Bright River finale.

Long Bright River season 2 gets a cautious response from creators Liz Moore and Nikki Toscano. An adaptation of Moore’s 2020 novel, the Peacock drama follows police officer Mickey (portrayed by Amanda Seyfried) as she begins investigating murders in Philadelphia, while worrying about the safety of her estranged sister. Along with Seyfried, the cast includes Nicholas Pinnock, Ashleigh Cummings, John Doman, Dash Mihok, and Britne Oldford. With all eight episodes released on March 13, the main mystery and storyline of Long Bright River were seemingly wrapped.

During a recent interview with Variety, Moore and Toscano addressed whether season 2 is possible. Giving a careful update, Moore teased that it was “classified information,” while Toscano added that a decision would not necessarily come from them. However, the co-creator explained that she and Moore would be interested in reuniting with the Long Bright River talent. Read their comments below:

Moore: I feel like that’s classified information.

Toscano: That’s a decision that’s, like, way above our pay grade. So I think we’ll just leave it at that. For both Liz and I, any opportunity to work with these actors again would be awesome, and we would be game to do it in any capacity.

What The Response Means For Long Bright River

A Season 2 Could Potentially Happen

The comments by Moore and Toscano suggest that there’s potential for a Long Bright River season 2, but a new story would likely be needed to incorporate Seyfried. In the final episode, Mickey realizes that Truman was never behind the various murders of young women. She already knew that a Philadelphia cop was responsible for what happened, but Long Bright River’s ending reveal of Lafferty came as a shock, as did his sudden death. Mickey also reconnects with Kacey, and later Truman, who express disappointment in how she handled her suspicions of him.

Peacock’s New Crime Drama Starring Amanda Seyfried Is The Perfect Follow-Up For Mare Of Easttown Fans

Amanda Seyfried is taking the lead role in Peacock’s new crime drama, Long Bright River, and it’s perfect for fans of Mare of Easttown.

Since debuting on Peacock, the show has generated positive reactions, but currently holds a Rotten Tomatoes score of only 67%, while the Popcornmeter stands at 61%. However, viewership can be more of a factor when considering a renewal and should the crime drama manage to draw large audiences, the streaming service may opt for additional episodes. Having Moore, who wrote the original novel and serves as an EP, possibly come back to continue the story would benefit Long Bright River season 2 as well.

Our Take On Long Bright River Season 2

There Are Some Threads It Can Complete

The Fitzapatricks' hanging out

While the finale brought many answers, there are lingering threads surrounding some of the Long Bright River characters that a potential season 2 could complete. Kacey meets Thomas, becoming part of his life, but she doesn’t inform him about their relationship. Another plot point is that Mickey is aware of Ahearn being linked to Lafferty, and when the show ends, there is still suspicion about him being in charge. However, with Mickey leaving the police department, Long Bright River would need to keep her involved in the action by some means.
