Netflix’s New Post-Apocalyptic Show Gets Instant Season 2 Renewal At Netflix

Netflix‘s new post-apocalyptic TV show gets an instant season 2 renewal on the streaming platform, just days after season 1 of the series dropped. The streaming service is home to some of the best post-apocalyptic TV shows in recent years, exploring a variety of worlds that have ended in a multitude of ways. Some of these include common ideas of world-ending events, such as the zombie apocalypse of Black Summer or the viral pandemic of Sweet Tooth. However, these ideas also emphasize the diversity of post-apocalyptic TV shows on the platform.

However, in addition to the popularity of post-apocalyptic shows, Netflix is also home to a variety of sci-fi series that offer interesting ideas across their stories. The success of these types of shows is reflected in their longevity, with Stranger Things season 5 and 3 Body Problem season 2 and 3 confirmed by the platform already. The latter series is also tied to apocalyptic themes, as it takes place prior to a potentially world-ending invasion. This sci-fi lean is also what defines the platform’s newest post-apocalyptic show, which just got renewed for season 2.

Netflix has renewed The Eternaut for season 2, while also providing details about what the upcoming season will entail. Reviews for The Eternaut have been incredibly positive, with the show earning a 92% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. The full, six-episode season 1 was released on the streaming platform on April 30, 2025.

Now, Deadline has confirmed that The Eternaut has been renewed for season 2, just two days after season 1 dropped on Netflix. The streamer’s Vice President of Latin American Content Francisco ‘Paco’ Ramos spoke about the anticipation for season 2, while producer Matías Mosteirin confirmed the newly-renewed batch of episodes will end the series. The producer also confirmed plans for season 2 to be eight episodes long, with an ending already planned for the series. Check out what Ramos and Mosteirin had to say below:

Francisco ‘Paco’ Ramos: Season 2 is going to be very important. It’s going to dig into a lot of sci-fi concepts that were just pointed out in Season 1, and they are going to be fully blown.

Matías Mosteirin: We believe that we will manage to close the whole story in a beautiful way, with probably eight more episodes…. We can sustain it for a second season, but no more than that. We feel that, artistically, that is the cycle to we need to sustain the mystique and the adventure of making the show. We want to challenge ourselves in the second season just as we challenged ourselves in the first one. We want to go for more, technically and creatively. We want to use all the knowledge we gained to do things on the second season that we didn’t manage to do on the first.

What The Eternaut’s Early Season 2 Renewal Says About The Show

It Has A Definitive Plan For Where It Wants To Go

The quick renewal of the streamer’s latest post-apocalyptic series reflects the end of The Eternaut season 1, which had adapted and modernized a good chunk of Oesterheld’s original comic. Mosteirin’s statement about the series having eight episodes left to tell its story signals Netflix is letting the whole story of the show get told, in part thanks to it already having a plan. With the series’ continuing now confirmed, it might not be much longer until concrete news is revealed about what direction the series will be going in.

The Eternaut season 1 is now streaming on Netflix.
