The Conners Final Episodes Teased By Laurie Metcalf As Season 7 Closes Out Hit Sitcom

Warning: SPOILERS ahead for The Conners season 7, episode 1!The Conners star Laurie Metcalf has teased the final episodes of the hit sitcom, explaining how season 7 is going to end the Roseanne sequel series. The Conners season 7 has introduced a variety of storylines to close out the show. The biggest of these is a potential lawsuit the family could file against an opiod company for Roseanne’s (Roseanne Barr) death, something Jackie (Metcalf) wants to do but that Dan (John Goodman) is against. It’s just one of multiple final stories for the final season of the show.

Speaking with People, Metcalf teased what to expect for the rest of The Conners season 7, revealing that some stories will remain “not completed” by the end of the series. The actor said that, while the series will maintain the important storytelling that’s defined it since the beginning, it won’t reach a satisfying conclusion for everything its history was built upon. Check out what Metcalf had to say below:

There’s a lot to wrap up, and I think the writers are really working hard to get everybody’s storylines sort of … not completed. It’s not going to have a big bow tied up with the Conners. And it will remain true to their storyline, what happens to them in the final episode, but, it’s a very short amount of time to wrap up this many seasons of a family that’s covered decades.

What Metcalf’s Statement Means For The Conners’ Final Episodes

Season 7 Might Not End With Everything Resolved

The Conners season 7 premiere established the lawsuit as the main storyline for the final episodes, with Dan joined by Louise (Katey Sagal) about not pursuing legal action for Roseanne’s sake. Other stories include tension between Darlene (Sara Gilbert) and Ben (Jay R. Ferguson) as he works with his magazine company, along with Becky (Lecy Goranson) and Tyler (Sean Astin) needing to put boundaries on their relationship as she finishes her degree. The show introduces these storylines in its premiere, laying the foundation for the five remaining episodes.

How Did Roseanne Die In The Conners?

The Conners season 7 episode 1 focuses on Roseanne’s death from years earlier, but how did Roseanne Barr’s character die and why was she killed off?

Based on what Metcalf said, it doesn’t sound like every character in The Conners is going to get a satisfying ending to their stories. This, unfortunately, makes sense, given the show only has six episodes to wrap up for good. This minuscule amount of time means some stories may, inevitably, fall to the wayside, or be wrapped up rather quickly compared to how the show typically handles long-term plot threads. It’s unclear if this means the core lawsuit storyline won’t be finished, or if others will be left incomplete instead.

It Actually Fits With The Show’s Themes

If The Conners really does end with multiple storylines being left incomplete, it won’t be entirely satisfying, especially if the lawsuit stays up in the air. However, the sitcom has always been about the ups and downs of the family’s life, including the ongoing unpredictability of what can happen. Because of this, the show ending without everything wrapped up neatly is fitting, as it reflects how not everything in life can be tied in a bow.

New episodes of The Conners season 7 air Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
