Leighton Meester‘s breakout role as Blair Waldorf, the complicated Queen Bee of The CW teen drama Gossip Girl, ended over a decade ago. In the years since, the actor joined the leading ensemble on the short-lived ABC sitcom Single Parents. She also had guest appearances on shows like The Orville and How I Met Your Father. But it’s been some time since the Teen Choice Award winner has had a spotlighted role on the small screen.
That will soon change, as Meester has boarded season 2 of the Apple TV+ romance drama The Buccaneers in an undisclosed role. It’s also been reported that she’ll appear in an HBO comedy pilot from Shiva Baby and Bottoms star Rachel Sennott. But along with those projects, Meester is returning to The CW for a buzzy police procedural.

Good Cop/Bad Cop recently debuted on The CW. The police procedural, which mixes comedy and mystery, centers on sibling detectives who work in a small Pacific Northwest and under the watchful eye of the police chief who is also their father. Created by John Quaintance, the new series also stars Luke Cook from The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Dexter alum Clancy Brown.
The cast also includes Devon Terrell, Grace Chow, Blazey Best, Philippa Northeast, William McKenna, Shamita Siva, and Scott Lee.
Good Cop/Bad Cop has debuted at 83% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 6 reviews. The procedural currently has five positive reviews, with one leaning negative, which breaks down to a score of 6.70/10. The score will fluctuate as more reviews are added in the coming days, but several critics praise Meester’s leading performance and the chemistry and charm shown by the cast. Critics acknowledge, nonetheless, that The CW procedural may feel overly familiar for viewers familiar with the tropes and trappings of the police procedural.

It’s Good To See Meester Doing Comedy Again
Good Cop/Bad Cop, a joint venture between The CW, The Roku Channel, Stan in Australia, and The U.K.’s ITV, is unique in that respect. However, the combo of a solid formula and a renowned star has been good for procedurals like High Potential on ABC and the CBS reboot Matlock. Meester should slide right into that conversation, with her ability to move between tones evident since the days of Blair Waldorf.
