The Next Chapter Season 2’s Filming Window Revealed By Showrunner Ahead Of Sequel Show’s Premiere

The Librarians: The Next Chapter showrunner has already hinted at a filming window for season 2. This upcoming series is a sequel spinoff to the cult hit series The Librarians, which originally ran on TNT from 2014 to 2018. Like its predecessor, The Librarians: The Next Chapter is about a group of adventurers who go on quests together in an effort to save magical objects. The 2025 series features a leading cast including Callum McGowan, Olivia Morris, Bluey Robinson, Jessica Green, Christian Kane, Caroline Loncq, Adnan Haskovic, and Harun Cehovic.

In an interview with ScreenRant for Leverage: Redemption season 3, The Librarians: The Next Chapter showrunner Dean Devlin reveals the release window for the second season. While he could not reveal an exact production date, he said that “they’re about to make an announcement” and noted that he will “be very busy this summer between Leverage and Librarians.” He also spoke about his relationship with actor Christian Kane, who is set to appear in The Librarians: The Next Chapter. Check out the full quote from Devlin below:

Dean Devlin: They’re about to make an announcement, and it’s going to be soon, and I will be very busy this summer between Leverage and Librarians. But again, the joy I had getting to bring back Leverage is amplified by getting to be back in the universe of The Librarians.

And you get to have Christian in both!

Dean Devlin: You know, he’s like my — not to compare myself to Scorsese, but what Scorsese’s relationship to DeNiro is, that’s clearly my relationship with Christian. I’ve done five series with him at this point, so we’ve become quite a team.

What This Means For The Librarians: The Next Chapter

Christian Kane’s Role Is Particularly Exciting

As Devlin alludes to, Kane’s appearance in The Next Chapter is particularly exciting for franchise fans because he was one of the stars of the original The Librarians show. In that series, he played Jacob Stone, a former oil rig worker turned Librarian. Kane has previously revealed that he will appear “every once in a while” in the reboot series, helping the new characters along their journeys. Based on Devlin’s more recent statement, it is clear that the showrunner likes working with Kane, building even more anticipation for this return.

The TNT network has had multiple awesome TV shows over the years but some are way better than the rest, a fact that is proved via IMDb.

Devlin’s update is also notable timing-wise, because The Librarians: The Next Chapter season 1 has not yet premiered. As revealed by a recent trailer for The Librarians: The Next Chapter, the series will debut on TNT on May 25 as part of a two-night premiere event. Airing episodes weekly after that, the show will still be in full swing by the time summer rolls around. Devlin did not specify what time during summer he would be working on The Librarians, but it is possible that production could start on the sophomore effort before the first season has finished airing.

Our Take On The Librarians: The Next Chapter News

The Series Was Initially Delayed

Devlin’s comment about the sequel series hints that the gaps between seasons could be fairly small. The series benefits from the fact that it was ordered for two 12-episode seasons, guaranteeing it a two-season arc at minimum and giving them more time to plan. This comes after the series faced an initial setback after their season, originally scheduled to release on the CW in October 2024, was delayed and dropped by the network. Now that things are in motion, however, it seems like The Librarians: The Next Chapter is not slowing down.
