The Night Agent star Gabriel Basso has reflected on the Netflix show’s massive viewership success ahead of season 2, unpacking what it means to him. The Night Agent season 1 ended with the final moments of Matthew Quirk’s book of the same name, while the upcoming episodes will feature a new, original story highlighting Peter (Basso) and Rose (Luciane Buchanan) investigating another conspiracy. Season 1 became a massive hit for the streaming platform, becoming their Number 7 most-watched English-language TV shows ever, sporting 803.2 million watch hours as of writing.
Speaking with GamesRadar+ about the show’s return, Basso revealed he wasn’t nervous about just how successful The Night Agent season 1 ended up being. The actor admitted he only wanted to ensure the crew’s vision, including that of series creator Shawn Ryan, was adhered to with his performance. He also said that, even if the series weren’t such a monumental success, he’d be happy as long as everyone who worked on it was proud of what they’d accomplished. Check out what Basso had to say below:
There is an awareness of how big the show is but I wouldn’t say it’s a pressure that makes you nervous. At least not for me. I’m not saying that I’m relaxed all the time, it’s more that it’s so many people you can’t even wrap your head around it, holding yourself accountable to hundreds of thousands of people, it’s just kind of ridiculous.
And so the people that I’m accountable to are the crew, knowing that the crew are there every day to work and that I have a job to make the show good, and that the writers put time in to make it good, and that Shawn [Ryan, creator] is overseeing it. I just try to make it as simple as possible. And if I can look at the crew at the end of the day and we all shake hands saying ‘you did well’, like I feel good about this show, then I feel good about it. If the whole world hated it but all the crew was proud of it, I’d be fine.
What Basso’s Statement Says About The Night Agent’s Netflix Success
It’s All About Making A Worthwhile TV Show
The Night Agent season 2 is promising another thrilling investigation for Peter and Rose, the pair trying to stop a potential attack poised to happen in New York City. The duo is also joined by new characters, including Peter’s superior, Catherine (Amanda Warren), who will provide additional insights into the large-scale storyline that unfolds. It’s unclear if season 2 can reach the unexpected heights of season 1, but Basso’s statement signals that his biggest concern is ensuring the final product is a worthwhile experience.
