“We’re Excited To Continue:” Harley Quinn Showrunner Teases Plans For Season 6 Of The DC Series

Showrunner Dean Lorey reveals whether there are any plans for Harley Quinn season 6 following the DC TV show’s recent season 5 finale. Harley Quinn season 5 shakes up the show’s story with Harley Quinn’s move to Metropolis and a deeper exploration of Poison Ivy’s backstory. To the delight of many fans, Harley Quinn season 5 also fleshes out Bane, Clayface, and Brainiac, and it cements Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy’s romantic relationship, which seems to be growing on solid foundations.

In an interview with Collider, Harley Quinn showrunner Dean Lorey reveals how he and the team behind the animated series approached season 5’s finale and how it would connect to season 6. Lorey teases “some exciting news soon” as he and the Harley Quinn team “have every intention of doing more.” Nevertheless, Lorey says he hopes Harley Quinn ends “one season before the wheels fall off” and that Harley and Ivy won’t break up. Read Dean Lorey’s full comments below:

“We were only thinking about it mostly in the sense of not wanting it to feel too much like the end of the series, because we would like to do more. We realized that if the show were to end there, it was a nice ending for the show, but we have every intention of doing more, and we’ve done a lot of work figuring out what that will be. So, I hope we’ll have some exciting news soon.”

“Well, I hope we stop one season before the wheels fall off. There’s no overall plan. There really never has been, other than a very basic desire to keep Harley and Ivy together through thick and thin, but to allow them to grow and all that. But we do have a pretty wonderful idea cafor what Season 6 would be if we get so lucky. We’re excited to continue.”

Harley Quinn Season 6 Is Likely To Happen

Dean Lorey’s remark about ending Harley Quinn “one season before the wheels fall off” has a basis in DC TV history. DC shows such as Smallville and The Flash have divided their audience for overstaying their welcome. Meanwhile, shows like Superman & Lois and Batman: The Animated Series ended with enough potential for more stories, leaving fans wanting more but maintaining their legacy intact. Likewise, Harley Quinn still has potential for more than one season, but it would end on a high note with its season 5 finale.

I Can’t Believe DC’s First 2025 Show Introduced Superman In Episode 1 & Ignored Him Until Episode 9

Superman returns in the first DC series of 2025, and the Man of Steel plays a key role in the TV show’s finale after going missing for a long time.

Extending Harley Quinn beyond its own reach risks undoing everything it has built so far. It would be easy to have Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy break up in order to inject drama into the animated show and give them time to mend their relationship over the course of one or more seasons. Of course, the risk of having the show canceled before Harley and Ivy get back together would be high. Despite their high quality, DC shows like Constantine and Swamp Thing were canceled before they could get the chance to finish important storylines.

The DCU Might Not Be An Obstacle For Harley Quinn Season 6

Harley Quinn Series on DC Universe

It would seem as though Harley Quinn season 6 is facing some unbeatable competition with the launch of the DCU’s Gods and Monsters chapter, kicked off by the animated Creature Commandos show and the live-action Superman movie. However, James Gunn’s interconnected DC Universe won’t push non-DCU titles to cancellation. Instead, Matt Reeves’ The Batman franchise, My Adventures with Superman, and Harley Quinn are able to continue on their own as Elseworlds titles. Hence, Harley Quinn season 6 is likely to happen.
