Actor Jeremy Renner is in critical yet stable condition following a plowing incident. Renner is best known for playing Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Most recently, he appeared in the 2021 Disney+ miniseries Hawkeye, and he’s begun starring in Taylor Sheridan’s Paramount+ show Mayor of Kingstown. Season 2 is set to premiere later this month on the streaming service.
According to Variety, Renner has been involved in a “weather related accident” while he was plowing on Sunday. The exact location of the accident has not yet been disclosed, but signs point to it taking place near the home Renner owns in Nevada; the area dealt with heavy snowfall on Saturday night (per the Reno Gazette Journal). Further details are sparse at the moment, but the actor’s representative issued a statement, saying:
“We can confirm Jeremy is in critical but stable condition with injuries suffered after experiencing a weather related accident while plowing snow earlier today. His family is with him and he is receiving excellent care.”
Every Upcoming Jeremy Renner Project
Presumably, more details about Renner’s condition will be revealed as the actor recovers. The next credit on his slate is the aforementioned Mayor of Kingstown season 2, which is set to begin on January 15. He is also attached to star in an untitled project about the makers of OxyContin, and he will release a new Disney+ series titled Rennervations sometime this year. Beyond that, many are speculating about whether Renner could make a grand return to any of the major franchises he’s starred in over the years.
The most prominent is the MCU, where he has played Hawkeye since 2011’s Thor. Disney+’s Hawkeye gave him his biggest showcase within the franchise yet, though the argument could be made that it also acted as a swan song for the hero. The series introduced popular comics character Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), who also takes on the mantle of Hawkeye. As of right now, neither Renner nor Steinfeld are confirmed to return for any additional Marvel projects. However, seeing as Hawkeye wasn’t marketed as a sendoff for Renner, there is a good chance he will return. A possible place for said return is in 2025’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and its 2026 follow-up, Avengers: Secret Wars. It seems likely those movies will assemble large casts comprised of well-known characters, and Renner’s Hawkeye could be among them
MCU aside, Renner has also appeared in two Mission: Impossible movies. Playing analyst William Brandt in both Ghost Protocol and Rogue Nation, Renner played a pivotal role in the action franchise. While he isn’t yet confirmed to appear in this year’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, he could make an appearance in its sequel. The two-part Dead Reckoning is being positioned as a finale of sorts for the franchise, and it would be fitting for Brandt to return to help close out the story. For the time being, though, much of this remains speculation. More details should emerge soon regarding Renner‘s ongoing condition.
