More Fast & Furious Character Returns Teased For Fast X By Vin Diesel

In a recent Instagram post, Vin Diesel hints that even more characters from the Fast & Furious franchise will be returning in the upcoming Fast X.

Fast X star Vin Diesel teases that the upcoming film may feature even more returning characters from the world of Fast & Furious. The tenth installment in the long-running franchise, Fast X sees Diesel’s Dom and the rest of his crew facing off against a new villain played by Jason Momoa. The upcoming sequel boasts the biggest cast of any movie in the series yet, with a host of returning characters set to share the screen with a number of new faces.

The already massive Fast X cast could be getting even larger if a recent post from Diesel is any indication, with the actor teasing that both Tego Leo (Tego Calderón) and Rico Santos (Don Omar) could be returning.

Both characters were first introduced in Fast & Furious in 2009 and then would soon after appear in the Los Bandoleros short film. Leo and Santos would go on to have supporting roles in Fast Five and The Fate of the Furious. Younger versions of the characters would also appear in F9: The Fast Saga.

Will Fast X Be Able To Balance Its Massive Cast?

Fast X is already shaping up to be the biggest Fast & Furious movie so far purely because of the impressive cast. In addition to Diesel, Fast X will feature returning actors like Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jason Statham, John Cena, Helen Mirren, and Charlize Theron, as well as newcomers like Momoa, Brie Larson, Rita Moreno, Michael Rooker, Alan Ritchson, and Daniela Melchior. While the cast alone will certainly be a strong draw for some audiences, it could also create a story problem.

With such a large cast, it’s uncertain whether Fast X will be able to serve all of these new and returning characters in a satisfying way. Diesel, Rodriguez, and the rest of the core crew will clearly still be the focus in Fast X if the trailer is any indication, but with so many other characters to set up and explore, arcs for the core cast may not be as fleshed out. On the other hand, if these new characters aren’t given very much screen time or development, this could also be its own disappointment.

Since Fast X is expected to serve as the penultimate installment in the franchise and will seemingly be fairly closely connected to Fast & Furious 11, it’s possible that the large cast of characters will make more sense when the film is looked at as the first part of a finale instead of its own standalone entity. It remains to be seen whether Leo and Santos will actually be joining Fast X, but the duo has always been a source of comic relief in the past. With the upcoming sequel set to be the most emotional one yet, some comedy might be a welcome addition.
