New medium, new alternatives

In Rohan Sippy’s head, the ending of Duranga’s first season is an interval level, and a gripping one at that. The Gulshan Devaiah and Drashti Dhami-led crime drama ended by revealing the true identification of Amit Sadh’s character. When Sippy was approached to helm the second instalment, he knew it could be an thrilling start line. “The writing was so intelligent, with Amit Sadh waking up as the actual Samit Patel on the finish of the primary season. I noticed that as the best scene for an interval level of a movie. So, there’s a nice promise of a second-half,” he says.

The chance to reconnect with an outdated collaborator was one other spotlight for the director. “I labored with Gulshan in Dum Maaro Dum 12 years in the past. Greater than their work, I’m drawn to individuals’s nature, and Gulshan is a beautiful particular person. He has constructed an [admirable] repertoire.”

Previously few years, Sippy seamlessly shifted to digital leisure, helming The Workplace, Felony Justice, and Aranyak. It has left the director, whose final movie providing was Nautanki Saala (2013), with little time to deal with options. However he isn’t complaining. “I’ve bought so many enjoyable alternatives in OTT within the final two years that earlier than I do know, six months to a 12 months go by in making a present. Each time, I feel I’ll begin growing a movie after ending the sequence in hand. However that doesn’t occur,” he smiles, including that he’s toying with a number of film concepts.

With theatres again to their outdated glory, larger-than-life spectacles have labored wonders on the field workplace, as have sequels—from Gadar 2: The Katha Continues to Fukrey 3. Would he prefer to make a sequel to any of his movies?  “Taxi No 9211 [2006] can be enjoyable to reimagine. Its themes are good to revisit 15 years later. However I haven’t considered it actively.”
